"Valuable pupil learning can take place in a wide range of out-of-school contexts. Teachers need to be able to plan to make the best use of these opportunities for learning and recognise the additional value that they bring."

When the Teacher Training Agency introduced new Qualifying to Teach Standards in 2002 it became possible for students on Initial Teacher Training courses to spend part of their teaching practice outside the classroom.

Museums, libraries and archives have unrivalled resources which can motivate even the most disaffected pupil. They can provide hands-on learning opportunities, open young eyes to new worlds, provide new insights and underpin learning in a way that simply isn't possible in a classroom.

Yorkshire Museums, Libraries and Archives Council created partnerships between universities and museums, libraries and archives and pilot placements by trainee teachers have been successfully completed.

We can offer several alternative examples of good practice and provide standardised processes and systems endorsed by our university partners. Through this site we hope we will be able to further increase the capacity of our museums, libraries and archives to offer many more placements for trainee teachers in our region.
