Agreeing a Timetable

It is important to agree a timetable at the first or second meeting, so that everyone, including the school and tutors are aware of everyone's commitments. A successful placement ought to be recognised by the provider as a worthwhile part of achieving the Qualified To Teach (QTT) award. The school are crucial partners who should be involved, and the trainee and the museum, library or archive mentor need to be assured that they have a timetable in place that meets needs and commits resources.

The University of Leeds produced a draft placement timetable: Leeds University - Draft Placement Timetable [27.0kb], that is an example of how to set out the timetable and process. It also identifies individual roles and responsibilities.

Yorkshire Museum produced a simpler, less formal planning letter: Yorkshire Museum Planning Letter [38.5kb], however this still provides a schedule and identifies roles and responsibilities.

To understand how the whole process works in practice refer to the case studies. Each case study is different but the process is largely the same. In each case the process resulted in a successful placement.
