"I have learnt about how the education service in the museums works, and how to organise a major outing. The experience for the children was of a much better quality than anything I could have put together outside the placement."

Who Is It For?

Roman Mosaic

Any ITT provider who can commit to supporting a placement in a museum, library or archive and can recognise that the qualifying to teach standards now allow that time spent working in a museum, library or archive with appropriate mentorship counts towards the total number of days required for qualification.

Any museum, library or archive in the Yorkshire region can offer a placement providing they can offer the necessary support and mentorship trainees and providers require. Along with the guidance here there is the support and expertise available from those colleagues who have previously received training and already experienced a placement. Those who've already taken part have ranged from small organisations with one or two staff to national institutions. Each was surprised at the input required, but were equally delighted with the outcomes and benefits.

We recommend that any schools who wish to become involved, contact their usual partner ITT provider in the first instance.

The site is designed to provide the necessary tools to help any ITT provider or museum, library and archive conduct a successful placement. We hope that this site will encourage many organisations to consider ITT placements in museums, libraries and archives.
